Eat: Hong Kong Lounge
Hong Kong Lounge - This is my all-time favorite dim sum place in the city. It might be because I used to live a stone’s throw away but I think they offer the best mix of white tablecloth dim sum and cheap neighborhood prices. It also is very nostalgic to the first weeks of living in San Francisco and all the great memories I have eating there with Kim, my friends and exploring my food-filed new neighborhood.
When I first moved into the Richmond neighborhood of SF, my good friend Jon (who created the gif you see) and I were exploring all the different restaurants. We popped in here on a weekend afternoon and proceeded to order close to 15 dishes for, you guessed it, the 2 of us. The waitress asked Jon who else would be joining us (in Mandarin) and proceeded to crack up when he said everyone in the party was present. Oink oink!
I’m forever grateful that we tried everything that day because from then on, Hong Kong Lounge became our go to dim sum spot. I learned that dim sum is more than just dumplings. I learned that I like tripe (but only dim sum style, which means served cold with a soy saucy type sauce on it) and that I don’t particularly like chicken feet (too much work). Whenever Kim and I would eat there our go to order was: har gow (shrimp dumplings), shumai (pork and shrimp dumplings), sticky rice, shrimp roll (or what we call shrimp in a blanket), baked bbq buns and soup dumplings. I really want to eat some dim sum now.
