Eat: Stonemill Matcha

If you love matcha, katsu and egg salad sandos, delicious pastries and other Japanese treats, Stonemill Matcha is the place to visit. There is always a line out the door, no matter what time of day because people cannot get enough of the meticulously crafted matcha drinks, layered katsu sandos, yummy egg salad sandos, salmon ochazuke with matcha tea broth and array of Japanese pastries.

Their food is delicious but don’t forget to try the star of the show, the matcha. In Japan, Kyoto is known as the birthplace of matcha. A master blender from a traditional tea house in Kyoto, where the leaves are grown, handcrafts the perfect blend from tencha leaves that are then imported to San Francisco (information from the Stonemill Matcha website). You’ll hear many benefits people rave about regarding matcha but my favorite is that it has as much caffeine in it as coffee but leaves you without the jitters. It’s packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients. One of the drinks I love is the matcha mixed with sparkling water and yuzu. It gives a refreshing, cool and unique spin to the normally steaming hot cup of tea. The strawberry matcha latte is also out of this world.
