Eat: Rintaro
Perfectly battered, juicy, katsu (filled with Cowgirl Creamery’s cheese, if that’s your preference) is the star at of the show at Rintaro in the Mission. This is one of those dishes that I still think about to this day.
Their chicken and pork katsu are both delicious and if you go for lunch, it is a meal in itself. It comes with various traditional Japanese sides a piping hot bowl of rice and miso soup. It is on the pricier side (we spent close to $80 there for lunch, for 2 ppl) but it’s cooked unlike any other katsu places in the city.
For dinner, there’s so much variety. The winged gyoza has deep brown, crunchy, flaky wings with juicy gyoza underneath and their noodle dishes are full of authentic Japanese flavor. I’d also recommend ordering a side of pork or chicken katsu. It comes with the option of cheese inside, as mentioned above, but I liked the regular traditional katsu. The cheese was good but my opinion is that it overpowered the flavor of the perfectly fried meat.
